About our gallery..
In a bustling market town, close by the river, surrounded by beautiful countryside, we are close to Southwold, Lowestoft, Bungay, Norwich and Great Yarmouth.
Our building is spread over three floors, with our entrance on the ground floor. It is a grade II listed building, a maze of delight, sorry no disabled access.

Supporting local artists
We support students, emerging artists, craftsmakers, professionals and established artists from Norfolk and Suffolk only.
By offering this service to those in our counties, we ensure that our artists can be seen, and we eliminate dealers from renting our space.
We offer a retail arts gallery accessible and affordable for all. The gallery is supported by rental artspace from as little as £5.00 per week, and can support 39 artists at any one time.
Galleries are encouraged to visit and see the array of artists on display, being inspired and selecting those they wish to exhibit.
ARTISTS
There are no commission fees on rental space. By eliminating these fees we can display promotional material directing your customers on to you for further work, through phone, website and email, and we thoroughly would encourage them to do so. We work for you.
VISITORS
Exhibitions change every two weeks, changing the dynamics of the gallery and rotating the displays, this makes the gallery totally different every time you visit.
We offer a full lifecasting service for newborns, children, couples, clients and patients. Lifecasting is a wonderful way of capturing life in a 3d sculptural element. It is also used as therapy and bonding sessions for those with family problems, and those with low self esteem/confidence issues, or those that may lose someone dear to them.
Michelle Payne is qualified as a mentor, and can offer a mentoring service to schools and colleges. The gallery also supports those students that wish to be enterprising and further their career as an artist.
BUSINESSES
Sales
Recent studies have shown that products benefit with increased sales when marketed with fine art. Professionals who display good fine art in their places of business experience that their clients and customers view them as having more authenticity, authority and professionalism. Restaurant owners know that art helps bring in customers, not just decorating but real art.
 Events and networking.

TESTIMONIALS

I never had the confidence to approach a gallery, Michelle and the Upstairs Gallery has launched my work in such a way that I am now sharing exhibition space with John Crome, never in my wildest dreams!
Dave Barber - Marine Artist

The Gallery changes frequently, on every return visit I find something new, and the works are so inspiring.
Kirsty, Beccles

The gallery offers us a promotion and publicity pack, full of useful information, that I would never have thought of. Our works are available for customers to purchase at an affordable price, in the correct retail environment, I had become so despondant in showing my work at craft fairs.
Alison Foster

I've had some pretty appalling experiences with galleries in the past, and you have restored my faith in human nature
Lynsey Adams, Ipswich

After reconstruction, I had lost my confidence in my body and my outlook, after viewing the results of my casting as an artwork, it showed objectively how beautiful I am.
